Ellen Van Wart, MS, LPC

My experience with teens and adults began in 2006 as an educator. It gave me insight into the challenges that kids face. What will my parents think of me when they see my grades? Nothing I do goes right. I really want friends…why doesn’t anyone like me? These were some of the thoughts that were expressed through words and behavior.

And in parent meetings, I heard the concerns of parents and saw their pain. And their tears. What am I doing wrong as a parent? Why is this so hard? Nothing seems to work; I think I am failing at this.

After years in education, I returned to school in 2020 and earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. During internship and supervisory years at HGI Counseling Services (also known as the Houston Galveston Institute), I was mentored by clinicians who are highly trained in Collaborative Therapy which was created by HGI’s founders. I have also had the opportunity to work with adults and teens in multiple settings, including a mood and anxiety center, schools, and private practice.

In addition to receiving in depth training in the Collaborative-dialogic approach to therapy, I have also been trained in CBT, ACT, DBT, Child-Parent Relational Therapy (CPRT), Sandtray, and expressive arts.

I love my work and consider it an honor to work with my clients.
